Radiation Safety Training

There are Radiation Safety Clinics scheduled for June 14 & 16.

There are no available positions at this time as we expect a full contingent for both days. The next sessions are August 30 & September 1, 2011.

Potential participants for the next sessions are asked to register by contacting Pauline Jones or by completing the registration form acquired here.

All sessions are held in the Biochemistry Teaching Lab, 8th floor, Sir Charles Tupper Medical building. Sessions run from 9:15 am - 4:00 pm.


Technology Waste Recycling

Arrangements are in place for Brilliance Computers to take all old computers for recycling in the Tupper Receiving Bay from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Items that can be dropped of include: monitors, keyboards, mouse, CPU towers, cords, and printers. The Windows stickers that has the serial number must be removed and all CPUs must have the hard drive cleaned. For assistance in cleaning hard drives or to request hard drive cleaning, contact Med IT at 494-1234. A small charge may apply.

Used cell phones:

There is also a drop off for old cell phones (dead or working) in the labeled gray bin outside Tupper 8-J1. You are welcome to dispose of your old equipment, including batteries and adapters and other such paraphernalia there. Alternatively, you can keep the batteries and chargers if you want them. Greg will allow us to retrieve the cell phones gathering in Central Stores. This initiative will channel the cell phones for recycling through the Moncton Zoo. Hundreds of zoos across North America participate in the EcoCell program which returns money to the zoos for educational efforts and protects mountain gorillas in Africa.

Please have your wastes at the Tupper loading dock for 09:15 am

Note: Trucking departs the loading dock as close as possible to 09:45.

Occasionally there are delays from pick-up destinations prior to your stop.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR WASTES UNATTENDED

Please refer to the Revised Procedures for Chemical Waste Disposal in preparing you chemical waste for collection. If you have questions regarding these procedures, please contact Dr. Martin Gillis (Chemical Safety Officer) or dial 494-3380.


WHMIS Training

Both university policy and provincial regulations require that individuals working with chemicals receive WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) training.

Dr. H. Martin Gillis, Chemical Safety Officer, will be presenting WHMIS training sessions located in Room 3-H1, 3rd floor, Physiology Department, Tupper Building.

The upcoming dates are:

Monday, February 21, 2011 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 8, 2011 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Friday, April 15, 2011 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 25, 2011 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Thursday, June 8, 2011 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m.

These sessions will primarily be targeted for those working in research laboratories, however, people working with chemicals in other settings will also find this session helpful.

It is strongly recommended that individuals trained more than 3 years ago also attend these sessions.
